About Miniature Schnauzers

About Us

We raise these sweet, Mini Schnauzer puppies in our home as part of our family.

I work on house training with them so you already have a good foundation when the come into their forever homes.

I love calling each pup by name once you have chosen what you would would like to call him or her.

Miniature Schnauzers

If you are not familiar with this breed, they are very loyal, friendly dogs who have the temperament of a large breed dog in a small body.

They were initially bred as “ratters” in Germany – and their sniffer shows it! A ratter has to be a resilient, compact dog with a great sense of smell.

Mine love children and get along well with other animals, though they still need to be taught that cats are not to be chased (ratter instinct or just being a dog? You be the judge!)

I find that while they enjoy playing with other dogs, they far would prefer attention from people if given the choice.

Hypo-Allergenic

They are classified as non-shedding, hypo-allergenic.

That being said, if you have severe allergies, be aware that you may still have a reaction.

Hypo-allergenic means that they are better for allergies, not a 100% guarantee.

Temperament

I find they travel well and have a good balance of energy to go for a run but also mellow out and snuggle for a movie.

While some Schnauzers have earned a bad reputation for barking, I find mine will let me know when someone has arrived at our house and then settle down once they know they are guests, not intruders.

Anyone who has had a Schnauzer is familiar with their adorable “AROOO” sounds and distinct voice.

They inevitably end up being the king of the castle (OR QUEEN) with their huge personality.

Training

OH! And they are smart as a whip!

Sometimes too smart for their own good!

But their intelligence makes them easy to train quickly, whether house training, manners or tricks.

Instead of opening the door to call my dogs during the cold winter months (no point letting all that cold air into the house!), I simply knock on the door and they come running.

The fact that my adults have learned this is nothing compared to the fact that the puppies learn that knocking on the door means that Mom is coming back and it is be dinner time!

They start howling excitedly waiting for Mom to come feed them.

Now that is some quick learning!

Haircuts

You can expect hair cuts to cost in the range of $45-$60 and typically should go every 6-8 weeks to maintain the “Schnauzer Cut.”

The groomer usually wants to have them for about 3 hours and they come back feeling like velvet from the cut!

When they get their first haircut as a puppy, they age into an “old man” look instantly!

Some families prefer to get a softer style of cut called a “muff” for their snout, rather than go straight to a beard to keep their youthful look a few months longer.

All in all, I am absolutely in love with the sweet personalities of my Mini Schnauzers and could not recommend them more!
